GROWING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST
January 07 – February 11, 2018

Epiphany season traditionally has a dual theme – Light and Growth.  In this series, we combine these two elements as we explore six ways in which we, as Christ-Followers, are to live and grow in the light of Christ.

PUTTING CHRIST FIRST

Psalm 37:3-5;  Philippians 4:2-9;
Matthew 6:25-33

SUMMARY
Today we take a bold look at whom we are living our lives for, and what takes priority in both our thoughts and plans.  Jesus often challenged His disciples to consider their commitment to both Him and His kingdom.  Kingdom living is no accident.  Focus, intentionality and purposefulness are important responses as we seek to live for Him.

LIVING BY HIS STRENGTH

1 Cor 10:12-13;  Philippians 4:13;
John 15:1-8

SUMMARY
So many things operate on rechargeable batteries these days that we all understand the need to regularly recharge.  Those batteries are not the source of power, but a store of it.  Today we are reminded that all spiritual power comes from God, and is available as we regularly recharge.  It is in this ultimate power that we are able to live for Christ.

LIVING BY HIS WORD

Psalm 119:9-16;  1 Peter 1:24, 2:1-3;
John 1:1-5

SUMMARY
Athletes tell us that, when they are training, they do not eat – they fuel.  Eating is emotional and arbitrary.  It is convenience and casual.  Fueling, on the other hand, is intentional and purposeful.  It involves the discipline of understanding what the body needs, and what it would do well without.  God’s word is spiritual fuel for the journey of life.  Today we explore the significance of making the distinction, and some options for implementing a fueling discipline.

BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING

Exodus 35:4-5;   2 Corinthians 8:1-14;   Matthew 6:19-24

SUMMARY
Generosity, like the other of God’s attributes, is not something He does, but is a part of His very nature.  Today we look at some Biblical principles of generosity, and how its practice helps us grow to be more God-like.

BEING CHURCH

Acts 2:42-47;  1 Corinthians 12:12-31a;      Matthew 18:19-20

SUMMARY
The human body is an amazing thing. It is incredible what it can accomplish and what it can do.  And, most incredibly, it works best when it is used as designed, as opposed to being neglected or abused.  The church, the organization and the spiritual body to which we belong, functions in much the same way.  Today we look at how each of us is a vital part of the Church, and how it is critical to the vitality of the church that each of us is involved and engaged.

PASSING IT ON

Ephesians 2:1-10;  1 Peter 3:13-17;
Mark 5:1-20

SUMMARY
We conclude this series acknowledging that the Church is perpetuated by those who share what they have received – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Our twin themes of Good Works and Witnessing guide us as we take that vital step of sharing Jesus with a combination of words and deeds.
