Advent Is...

December 3 - December 24
4 weeks
Each week we hear Jesus’ command to, “Do this and remember me.”  In this season of anticipation, we explore four ways in which we can all engage in active waiting that both prepares our hearts and honors Christ as we dedicate our daily lives to not only remembering, but living what we remember.

Christmas Is...

Christmas Eve and December 31
Each year we remind ourselves of the “Reason for the Season”.  This year, while celebrating the historical event of Christ’s birth, we also celebrate two aspects of Christmas that have special meaning to us today.

December 3
Advent Is... Hope
Isaiah 64:1-9;  1 Cor. 1:3-9;
Mark 13:24-37

The First Sunday of Advent draws us into the promise of scripture that God is working His plan for creation, which is our basis for hope. Paul reminds believers that they are closer now, in Christ, than ever before, to the promise of salvation. Until Jesus returns, we are challenged to be ready, for no one knows the time or the day when he will come again in glory.

December 10
Advent Is... Peace
Isaiah 40: 1-11;  2 Peter 3:8-15a;
Mark 1:1-8

Through Scripture we receive encouragement for a life of faith. Peter urged dispersed Christians to live in harmony and, with one unified voice, to praise and glorify God the Father, and to live in Peace.  Mark tells us plainly that there will be trials in our lives, yet this does not preclude our living in peace, especially in the midst of difficult times.

December 17
Advent Is... Joy
Isaiah 61:1-4,8-11;  1 Thes. 5:16-24;
John 1:6-8, 19-28

Paul’s stirring call for us to rejoice in the Lord always, is a reminder that we have the ability to control our attitudes.  When we focus on external forces and circumstances over which we have little or no control, we allow those things to dictate our attitudes as we respond to them. Assuming an attitude of joyfulness allows us to focus on the Lord, and what He is doing, and grounds us in His priorities as we make daily choices for living.

Advent Is... Love
2 Samuel 7:1-11,16;  Romans 16:25-27;  Luke 1:26-38

In these waning hours of Advent, we are reminded that nothing is impossible for God.  Our personal honesty reminds us that none of us are lovable by our own efforts, but receive the gift of love from the one who bestows it.  We are about to celebrate the greatest gift of all time!  How shall we live in response?

Christmas Eve Evening Services

Christmas Is... A Miracle
Isaiah 9:2-7;  Luke 2:1-20
On the eve of Christmas, we take a fresh look at how God works in and through His people in miraculous ways.  A sign of God’s majesty for sure, and also a reminder that God’s ways are often beyond human comprehension.

December 31
Christmas Is ... A New Beginning
1 Cor 15:45-49;   Rev 21:3-7;
Luke 2:22-40
For those celebrating "holidays", the events are over, and it is time to move on to the next thing.  But, for those who are celebrating Holy Days, a new thing has just begun.  Today we hear the “New Adam” call us to a new way of living, with new priorities, new values and a new vision of living in, with and for Christ!
